August  Monthly Mind Article
We have delved quit a bit on aromatherapy, as we know it is nothing new to civilization.  I ran across an article entitled "Aromatherapy for Men." I felt that if you know most men they have never heard the word or know anything about the truth and the many benefits they could receive.  According to Russ Delbridge, In Light Times June 2008, "Aromatherapy for Men."
We are not living in  the day of hunter gathers, so the types of stress a man faces today are different compared to tribal days.  Not to say the amount of stress is not similar to hunting or being hunted. I guess it can be summed up that today's stress is the battle of the mind.  When I think of how aromatherapy has changed my life according to Russ. I realize more and more the importance of aromatherapy for men in today's modern culture.
Russ continues on a brief overview of what aromatherapy is, for the guys.  Aromatherapy was identified in France by a Mr. Gattefosse in the 1920's. Mr Gattefosse was a chemist and apparentely prone to getting burned in his lab, he became somewhat of and authority on burns form his own personal experience.  One day Mr. Gattefosse lit his arm on fire and in a panic he doused the flames in a vat of lavender oil.  Gattefosse experienced immediate relief forn the pain and additionally in the days to come the recovery process was extremely short and with minimal scarring.  Compared to the previous burns he experienced he could not deny he was onto something.  After this incident Gattefosse dedicated his life to the study of Aromatherapy.
Russ continues with his own personal experience of the number one benefit he has seen occur is the ability to handle stress. In modern life, previously to his experiments with the basil oil his depression was on an all time high.  He goes onto explain they one should never use the exotic variety of basil, since it possibly could cause cancer.   I found this strange to put into Russ's article.  Absolutely much research should begin before using basil!  However, basil oil is amazing at giving him a second wind at the end of the day.   He has felt by using this as aromatherapy he has had more quality time with his daughter and strangely able to let go of stress that he has had during the day.  His focus is described as being sharper so he can think clearly about positive aspects in life and bring him self to a place that is pleasant.  He also has used lemon oil and enjoys that as well. He highly recommends eucalyptus oil and mint.  During a cold or flu this little combo delivers a knockout in clearing nasal passages.  Another is yarrow root; he claims it gets rid of most cold and flu symptoms.  Obviously again, this is treating the symptom not the cause, however, again it should be enough to get yourself positve enough to fight back mentally.  Aromatherapy for men is also important in skin burns; lavender oil is a great way to get some relief.  For cold sores you may also want to try bergamot  combined with eucalyptus oil providing amazing relief.  Aromatherapy for men in the future more than likely be commonplace than it is today.  You can visit his web site at www.Aroma-therapy-research.info.
